The gods and goddesses of ancient Egypt were among the most fascinating figures in the ancient world. Some appeared as humans, others as animals, and many combined both forms, with falcon heads, lioness faces, jackal features, crocodile bodies, cow horns, sun disks, feathers, crowns, and sacred symbols.
To the ancient Egyptians, these gods were not distant myths. They shaped the rising sun, the flooding of the Nile, the protection of the home, the fate of the dead, the power of kings, and the balance of the universe itself. Every god had a role, a personality, a set of symbols, and a visual identity that made them instantly recognizable in temples, tomb paintings, statues, amulets, and sacred stories.
This visual guide brings together the most important ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses in one place. Below, you will find their names, pictures, symbols, appearances, powers, and the myths connected to them, from famous deities like Ra, Isis, Osiris, Anubis, Horus, and Bastet to lesser-known but equally fascinating figures such as Hapi, Taweret, Bes, Seshat, and Wepwawet.

Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses: A Visual List With Pictures
To fully understand the ancient Egyptian family tree, you’ll want to make sure that you first read the story “The Waters of Chaos.” But basically it all begins with RA.
I want to be really clear here. Ancient Egyptian history spans thousands of years and has changed not only over time but also by region.
Ancient Egypt stretched approximately 880 miles from top to bottom. This distance was measured along the Nile River from the Mediterranean coast in the north (Lower Egypt) to the First Cataract at Aswan in the south (Upper Egypt).
That’s bigger than Califormia who is about 827 miles from top to bottom (Oregon border to the Mexican border).
And keep in mind they didn’t have cars or airplanes, so basically what I’m saying is, not only did the religion change over time (thousands of years), it also wasn’t exactly the same in one region as it was in another.
So while you’re learning about Ancient Egyptian Gods, keep that in mind.
